Country Apple Crisp with a Sunday’s Twist

apple crisp with a Sunday's twist

Apples on a stick, they make me sick…so we put them in a crisp instead πŸ™‚ This apple crisp with a twist is topped with a crunchy oat topping and is filled with apples and a surprise guest…pomegranates! The sweet apple paired with the tart snap of the pomegranate seeds makes for a delicious holiday dessert (best served with ice cream!)

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees and better the bottom and sides of a 8×11 dish.
Apple Mixture

5 C diced Granny Smith apples
1 C pomegranate seeds
3/4 C brown sugar
1/4 C granulated sugar
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t salt
1 t vanilla
1/3 C flour

Topping
2 C old fashioned oats
1/4 C flour
1/4 C brown sugar
1/2 t salt
1/2 C softened butter

In a large bowl, stir all of the apple mixture ingredients together and dump into your prepped dish.

In a smaller bowl, combine all of the dry topping ingredients. With a large spoon or your hands, fully incorporate Β the butter into your dry ingredients. Your hands make for really good tools for this step πŸ™‚ Evenly sprinkle the topping mixture over the apple mixture and bake for ~60 minutes or until top is golden brown and apples are bubbly and delicious. Finish it off by sprinkling pomegranate seeds over the top of your crisp for a welcome pop of color.

In our minds, nothing says holiday season more than the smell of apples and cinnamon taking over your house. But baker beware-the wonderful smells may lure in friends, neighbors, or family, so be ready for company! πŸ™‚
